The Creative Collective is a student-led publication space aimed at platforming, showcasing, celebrating and rewarding work that falls beyond the scope of traditional academic essay writing. In particular, The Collective invites students to share pieces that are unconventional, experimental, non-standardised or minoritised; in addition to work that touches upon issues pertinent to equality, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racisms. This could be a piece of poetry, a photo essay, song lyrics, a short film, interviews, micro-ethnographies, and so on.
The idea behind The Collective emerged during a Coffee Morning discussion in the department. Students voiced their desire to have a space to express themselves and their anthropological ideas without the pressures and limitations of academic conventions and marking criteria. The Collective provides a space for students to explore the world of anthropology with fewer limitations.
The Creative Collective is hosted by Anthropolitan but is editorially independent. For more information about the editorial process behind The Collective contact the editor – Gabriella Santini.
For the academic year 23/24 the Collective is funded through UCL ChangeMakers.
