Note from the Editor

We are excited to launch The Creative Collective — a student-led blog which aims to showcase alternative pieces of anthropological engagement.

Anthropology is increasingly becoming a creative discipline: it has opened itself to different ways of being, living and thinking, and is always finding new ways of pushing its boundaries. Moving beyond hegemonies in our methodology and epistemology also means moving beyond hegemonic forms of expression. The Creative Collective is a space for students to express themselves beyond the conventional, a space not constrained by marking rubrics or shaped by academic writing styles or expectations. The aim is to showcase and value non-traditional and experimental outputs. This could be photos from the field (or from anywhere!), a sketch, a short film, a song, or even a choreography— if it exists, we’re happy to showcase it.

This project received funding from UCL ChangeMakers; however, the EDI Class/Classism team has had the idea for a writing collective for some time now. We would like to thank Andrew Crane (BSc Anthropology) who had first come up with the idea of a writing collective and helped us with our first application to the Student Success funding scheme.

We are eager to read/listen/watch/feel your contributions.
